Mini Art are regularly rehashing their kits to bring out different versions, and sometimes the differences are minimal, but this one is probably worthy of a mention here. The ‘L701 German 3t Cargo Truck’ is based on the Opel Blitz kit that has already been released in military and civilian versions by Mini Art, but this one features a complete wooden cab, as used by the German to save metal for use on fighting vehicles. This was a bit of an odd-ball vehicle as it was basically an Opel Blitz made under licence by Mercedes-Benz and carried no manufacturer’s badge (which is probably useful for Mini Art getting round copyright issues).

Mercedes built these trucks from 1944 through to 1949. Numbers weren’t massive, probably around 3,500, but the trucks performed better than Mercedes own trucks and were vastly cheaper.

The kit can be built with a nicely sculptured canvas top, with bare top bows with no canvas or just a plain open cargo bed. PE fittings are included.
Being a late war German vehicle means that you can enjoy freehand airbrushing camouflage should you so wish. See the traders’ websites for stocks and prices.
