This report is perforce brief, because the demands of the role vary greatly, but relatively few members ask for me to help with their research for two reasons: the greater availability of information via the internet, and the greater accuracy of kits from all manufacturers. This reduction of demands on my time is a godsend, because the requests that do still come in are often very technical and take several days to complete. It is very enjoyable to help fellow modellers with their research, and to my knowledge no other modelling society has this role in place.
A larger chunk of my time involves assisting with the MAFVA Facebook page. The primary issue there is that we have a few simple rules to prevent Spam, and generally speaking this firewall is working well to prevent unwanted posts. However, policing the page and advising people is a big job each day. To use this report as an additional avenue to point out the ‘rules’, they are:
- You must have an image as your profile picture. It can be anything, but you need a picture. This is to prove you aren’t a bot.
- You need to have joined the page for a number of days before you can post. This is to cut out random spammers.
- When you post a picture or link, you need to write a sentence of your own. This is to cut out automated posts that try to insert content onto Facebook pages..
- No commercial advertisements. No abuse. And definitely no dodgy content!
