TANKETTE Vol. 60/3
Go to Member’s Area
The third issue of Tankette for 2025 has arrived, and the cover photo is an interesting diorama featuring a Sherman Dozer.
A slight change to the usual format in that page two features a visit to the ‘History on Wheels’ museum at Eton Wick. Editor Robin provides several photos of the exhibits and describes how many have featured in well-known feature films.
Page three is the usual contact information, contents and Robin’s editorial.
We then have the latest instalment of The Cromwell File, Part Four: The Tanks of the Cromwell Group, as always, from the keyboard of Dick Harley. This covers the early models of Cromwell from the different manufacturers, which for the uninitiated can be quite confusing. Dick lays out the story in a clear manner, and backs it up with his 1/76th scale drawings. All together there are five sets of plans.
A book competition gets promotion next, with ‘Tank’ by Mark Urban as the prize, kindly donated by Penguin Random House publishers.
Doyen of the tank world David Fletcher brings us a piece on the Murray Sueter’s Pedrail Landship Design from 1915. A drawing and two photos come with the article, describing early work to develop what became the ‘Tank’.
MAFVA was originally set up in 1965, so this year we celebrate 60 years of the association*. Tom Cole delivers a potted history of MAFVA from its early days to where we are now. This provides the chance for older members to reminisce, and newer members to learn our origins.
(*NB: Members are welcome to bring models dating from, or depicting 1965 to exhibit in the 1965 Display on the stage. Any subject relating to 1965 would be welcome)
Next we have a modelling article by Andy Lang of the Bolivian Carden-Loyd Tankette as seen in the Chaco War of 1932-35. The informative text and step-by-step photos provide inspiration on modelling techniques and finishes.
The ‘Case for Books’ presents short reviews of six books from a variety of sources and subjects.
‘Out in the Marketplace’ is a selection of new kit releases presented by Robin. New kits are appearing at a terrific rate, and this is an opportunity to see what is going to be available.
The last article is a tribute to the late Neil Craig in the form of the ‘Member’s Models’ page (or two…)
Neil was a prolific modeller who produced exquisite small scale masterpieces. Dick Harley describes the man and his art, and this is supported by numerous photos of his models.
Another excellent issue, as always put together by Robin Buckland from articles sent in by the membership.
